Index Of Industrial Production and Monthly Manufacturing Statistics Malaysia December 2019 were published on 07 February 2020. 


Malaysia’s Industrial Production Index (IPI) grew by 1.3 per cent in December 2019

The Industrial Production Index (IPI) grew by 1.3 per cent in December 2019 as compared with the same month of the previous year. The growth in December 2019 was driven by the increase in the index of Manufacturing (3.4%) and Electricity (0.9%). Meanwhile index of Mining recorded a decline of 4.9 per cent.


On year-on-year basis, the Manufacturing sector output rose by 3.4 per cent in December 2019 after recording a growth of 2.7 per cent in November 2019. The major sub-sectors contributing to the increase in December 2019 were Non-metallic Mineral Products, Basic Metal and Fabricated Metal Products (4.6%), Petroleum, Chemical, Rubber and Plastic Products (3.6%) and Electrical and Electronics Products (3.1%).


The Mining sector output dropped 4.9 per cent in December 2019 as compared to the same period of the previous year. The decline was due to the decrease in both indices under Mining sector which were Crude Oil and Condensate index (-6.6%) and Natural Gas index (-3.4%).


The Electricity sector output increased by 0.9 per cent in December 2019 as compared to the same month of the previous year


The IPI for the year of 2019 recorded a growth of 2.4 per cent as compared to the previous year. The increase was contributed by the growth in Manufacturing and Electricity sector which were 3.6 per cent and 3.3 per cent respectively. Meanwhile, the Mining sector declined by 1.7 per cent.




Malaysia’s Manufacturing sales grew by 5.2 per cent to RM76.1 billion in December 2019

Malaysia’s Manufacturing sales grew by 5.2 per cent in December 2019 to register at RM76.1 billion as compared to RM72.3 billion reported a year ago. The year-on-year growth was driven by the increase in Transport Equipment & Other Manufactures Products (7.7%), Petroleum, Chemical, Rubber and Plastic Products (5.9%) and Electrical & Electronics Products (2.7%).


Total employees engaged in the Manufacturing sector in December 2019 was 1,090,614 persons, an increase of 1.4 per cent or 14,979 persons as compared to 1,075,635 persons in December 2018. Salaries & wages paid amounted to RM4,329.2 million, went up 4.2 per cent or RM173.7 million in December 2019 as against the same month of the preceding year.


The sales value per employee grew by 3.7 per cent to record RM69,757 as compared with the same month in 2018. Meanwhile, the average salaries & wages per employee was RM3,970 in December 2019.


The sales value of the Manufacturing sector in the year 2019 registered a growth of 5.0 per cent to RM866.0 billion as compared to the same period of 2018. The number of employees engaged during the period grew by 1.4 per cent to register 1,090,614 persons while salaries & wages paid posted an increase of 4.3 per cent to RM48.4 billion. The sales value per employee during the reference period rose by 3.6 per cent to record RM794,065.
