Quarterly Construction Statistics, ST1 2020 was published on 12 May 2020 Malaysia’s construction sector contracted 6.3 per cent  in the first quarter of 2020 The value of construction work done in the first quarter 2020 contracted by 6.3 per cent (Q4 2019: 1.3%) year-on-year basis, amounting to RM35.0 billion   (Q4 2019: RM37.0 billion). All construction activities slowed down in the first quarter of 2020. There were declined in the Non-residential buildings sub-sector 11.0 per cent , Special trades activities sub-sector ( 8.6% ), Residential buildings sub-sector ( 7.6% ) and Civil engineering sub-sector ( 2.3% ) in the first quarter 2020. The Civil engineering sub-sector remained dominant as the main contributor to the value of construction work done with 44.9 per cent share. Non-residential buildings contributed 25.9 per cent , Residential buildings ( 24.1% ) and Special trades activities ( 5.0% ). Index Of Industrial Production and Monthly Manufacturing Statistics Malaysia March 2020 were published on 11 June 2020.  Malaysia’s Industrial Production Index (IPI) decreased 4.9 per cent in March 2020 The Industrial Production Index (IPI) dropped 4.9 per cent in March 2020 as compared with the same month of the previous year. The decline in IPI in March 2020 was contributed by the decrease in all indices, which were index of Manufacturing ( -4.2% ), index of Mining ( -6.5% ) and index of Electricity ( -7.0% ). On year-on-year basis, the Manufacturing sector output dropped 4.2 per cent in March 2020 after recording an increase of 6.2 per cent in February 2020. The major sub-sectors contributing to the decrease in Manufacturing sector in March 2020 were Electrical and Electronics Products ( -5.0% ), Non-metallic Mineral Products, Basic Metal and Fabricated Metal Products ( -9.8% ) and Food, Beverages and Tobacco ( -9.9% ).
