Index Of Industrial Production and Monthly Manufacturing Statistics Malaysia January 2021 were published on 12 March 2021. 

 

Malaysia’s Industrial Production Index (IPI) contracted 2.2 per cent in November 2020

The Industrial Production Index (IPI) contracted 2.2 per cent in November 2020 as compared to the same month of the previous year. The deterioration of IPI in November 2020 was due to the fall in Mining and Electricity index when it recorded a decline of 15.4 per cent and 2.5 per cent respectively. Meanwhile the Manufacturing index continues to grow 2.0 per cent.


The Manufacturing sector output based on year-on-year comparison grew by 2.0 per cent in November 2020 after recording a growth of 2.4 per cent in October 2020. The major sub-sectors contributing to the growth in Manufacturing sector in November 2020 were Electrical & Electronics Products (8.3%), Transport Equipment & Other Manufactures (6.5%) and Petroleum, Chemical, Rubber &  Plastic Products (2.0%).  


The Mining sector output dropped 15.4 per cent in November 2020 as compared to the same period of the previous year. The decrease was influenced by Crude Oil & Condensate index (-15.8%) and Natural Gas index (-15.1%).


The Electricity sector output decreased 2.5 per cent in November 2020 as compared to the same month of the previous year.





Manufacturing sales grew 2.1 per cent in November 2020, remained positive for the sixth consecutive month

Malaysia’s Manufacturing sales in November 2020 stood at RM119.9 billion, grew 2.1 per cent as compared to previous year. The rise in sales value in November 2020 was driven by the increase in Transport Equipment & Other Manufactures Products (10.5%), Electrical & Electronics Products (5.3%) and Food, Beverages & Tobacco Products (5.1%). Meanwhile, on month-on-month basis, the sales value decreased 1.7 per cent.


Total employees engaged in the Manufacturing sector in November 2020 was 2,195,488 persons, a decrease of 2.2 per cent as compared to 2,245,373 persons in November 2019. Salaries & wages paid amounted to RM7,190.3 million, dropped by 1.3 per cent or RM91.8 million in November 2020 as against the same month of the preceding year.


The sales value per employee rose by 4.5 per cent to record RM54,599 as compared with the same month in 2019. Meanwhile, the average salaries & wages per employee was RM3,275 in November 2020.
