Quarterly Construction Statistics, First Quarter 2023

  The Construction sector sustained its positive momentum in the first quarter of 2023, registering a growth of 9.4 per cent The Construction sector sustained its positive momentum in the first quarter of 2023 with the value of work done expanded by 9.4 per cent to RM32.2 billion. The expansion of value of work done in this quarter was supported by a double-digit increase in Civil engineering (17.2%); followed by Non-Residential buildings sub-sectors and Special trade activities which increased by  9.6  per cent and 9.0 per cent respectively. Meanwhile, the value of work done in the Residential buildings sub-sector declined by 2.2 per cent as against positive growth of 5.3 per cent recorded in the previous quarter . Manufacturing Statistics, March 2023

  The sales value of the Manufacturing sector expanded by 8.0 per cent, amounting to RM156.2 billion in March 2023 The expansion of 8.0 per cent in the sales value of Manufacturing sector was mainly supported by the double-digit growth in Transport equipment & other manufactures (14.6%) and Electrical & electronics products (12.7%) sub-sectors. In comparison with the preceding month, the sales value returned to record positive growth of 7.6 per cent after registering a continuous decline since December 2022. The sales value of export-oriented industries which contributed more than two-thirds or 71.7 per cent of total sales, rose 7.3 per cent in March 2023 after registering 9.9 per cent growth in February 2023. Similarly, the domestic-oriented industries posted steady growth of 9.9 per cent (February 2023: 11.3%). Industrial Production Index, March 2023

  Malaysia's Industrial Production Index grew by 3.1 per cent in March 2023, spurred by expansion in Manufacturing and Mining sectors IPI grew by 3.1 per cent in March 2023 after recording an increase of 3.5 per cent in February 2023. The rise in March 2023 was driven by the expansion of Manufacturing sector with 4.1 per cent (February 2023: 4.8%) and rebounded by 0.8 per cent in Mining sector (February 2023: -0.5%). Nonetheless, the Electricity index turned downward to negative 0.3 per cent during the month from a positive growth of 1.1 per cent last month. In terms of month-on-month comparison, the IPI turned around to a vigorous performance of 8.3 per cent in March 2023 after a declining trend for three consecutive months. The increase of 4.1 per cent in the Manufacturing sector output in March 2023 was mainly backed by the domestic-oriented industries which rose by 5.0 per cent (February 2023: 7.0%).
